HHFA SUPPORT ALL CHAPTERS Short Notice Ride To Sgt Steven Floyd Vigil in Dover

February 3, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Yesterday Sgt Steven Floyd Sr., a Delaware corrections officer lost his life in a prison uprising in Smyrna DE yesterday. His was the only fatality. He was a hero and saved the lives of his fellow officers while losing his own. His brother Ralph Floyd is a good friend of mine. “Sgt. Steven Floyd Sr. was a father, a grandfather, a loving husband,” an emotional Geoffrey Klopp, president of the Correctional Officers Association of Delaware, said Thursday. “He worked overtime three and four times a week to put his kids through college .. anything his kids or his wife wanted or his grandkids.”

“Sgt Steven Floyd was one of the finest examples of a correctional officer there was,” Staff Lt. Joe Simon, a 22-year correctional officer wrote on his own Facebook page. “His professionalism was beyond reproach and was one hell of a guy who was fun to talk to. To say he will be missed is an understatement. R.I.P. dude and God speed.”

The candlelight vigil to honor him starts at 6:00 pm this evening at the Legislative Green, in Dover DE

We will meet at the WaWa on Route 50 near the Bay Bridge at 4:00 PM. Leaving for Dover at 4:15 pm. There will be both cars and bikes going. If you can, please join us in paying our respects, and showing that his death was not in vain.
