Armed Forces Day ESCORT MISSION.
We will be supporting AMVETS Post 917 annual STATEN ISLAND WELCOMES OUR HEROES (SIWOH) police escorted ride along with other various motorcycle organizations escorting of a small group of injured military personnel being treated at Walter Reed to The Delaware Memorial Bridge
Every year a small group of injured military personnel being treated at Walter Reed is taken to NY for a weekend to take their minds off their daily routine. The first leg of the mission is from Walter Reed to The Delaware Memorial Bridge , where the NY group takes over and escort them to their final destination.
Montgomery County police will provide security ” Block traffic, close on ramp and keep cages away from the group” . This is a non interrupted ride where we take the left lane all the way to Delaware; make sure your fuel tank can take you all the way also that you’re able to ride in a group at a fast pace . Don’t forget your EZ pass there is no stopping to pay for tolls .
Meetup time is 0615

If you are planning on attending please RSVP by May 10th so I can inform M.C.P. how many riders will be participating. This will help to determine how many M.C.P. officers will be needed to CLEAR THE WAY for these HEROES!!!
The escort mission this year will take place on Armed Forces Day, Saturday May 20. The escort begins at the Walter Reed National Military Medical center in Bethesda, MD and ends in Staten Island, NY. The southern portion of the escort has been organized, coordinated and conducted by Vic “Lay Low” Valerio, the president of the Free State Chapter, Nam Knights for the past several years and I’m hoping he will be in charge again this year. The southern portion runs from WRNMMC to the Delaware side of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. The northern portion, which I have planned for the past eight years, runs from the Delaware side of the Delaware Memorial Bridge to Staten Island. What’s it all about… AMVETS Post 917 has been organizing, coordinating, and hosting this event since 2009. A group of injured warriors their guests are escorted from Walter Reed National Medical Center (formerly Walter Reed Army Hospital) to Staten Island for a VIP weekend. Maryland Police, Delaware Police, New Jersey State Police, Port Authority Police, FDNY and over 200 bikers from various motorcycle organizations ensure safe travel as they escort the honorees into Staten Island. Once in Staten Island the honorees are welcomed by flag waving crowds as they travel in a motorcade along one of the busiest major roads on the island. Staying at one of Staten Island’s most prestigious hotels, Nicotra’s Hilton Garden Inn, the honorees and their guests will enjoy many events in their honor. Some of the events that the honorees and their guests will enjoy are a special welcome lunch at the Commons Cafe, welcome home dinners by the FDNY and VFW Post 7172, a trip around New York Harbor by the USCG aboard their cutters. The trip includes getting up and close to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and other points of interest on the harbor, deliveries of New York pizza by various local restaurants, presentations by school children chorus, breakfasts hosted by local FOP and AMVETS Post 917, and much more…
A coordination meeting is happening on February 6, so I’ll update this page shortly after that with more details and information.
