NYS: Mission Member Support – Flag Line for Fallen Hero

The PGR have the lead on this event, members wishing to attend and show their support for our NYS Secretary “Pippie”, please fall in with the PGR members to assist in this event. Frederick L. Rickard passed away recently at the young age of 65. He was 100% Disabled due to the effects of Agent Orange. Mr. Rickard’s Military Service is significant, and according to his daughter, he was ALL Military his whole life.
Frederick served a total of 14 years, from 1967 – 1981. He was a member of both the VFW and American Legion. He served the first 3 years in the US Marine Corps (1967-1970). He attained the rank of Sgt. E-5. During that period he served two tours (2 years) in Vietnam as an 0311 Rifleman. For his service in Vietnam he was awarded:
National Defense Service Medal
Combat Action Ribbon
Vietnam Service Medal
Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device
Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm
According to his daughter, Mr. Rickard could not re-up with the Marines due to the effects of Agent Orange and PTSD.
So he enlisted in the US Army, and served until 1981, discharged as a Sgt. E-5. During his Army service, Mr. Rickard served as an Armorer, Unit Supply Specialist and Military Policeman and saw duty in Germany for over 4 years. In addition to the awards earned in Vietnam, Mr. Rickard was awarded two (2) Army Good Conduct Medals. Mr. Rickard left the Military Service 100% Disabled from Agent Orange.
This American Hero deserves the best we can do to honor him and support his family.
